28 Aug 2008
ACCA has announced the 14 finalists of its annual UK Sustainability Reporting Awards. They are:
Large corporations
Anglo American
BAT
BHP Billiton
BP
BT
Camelot
GSK
Shell
The Co-operative Group
Unilever
Vodafone
Xstrata
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
REAP
Traidcraft
'This shortlist includes a wide range of industry sectors, including small businesses,' said Rachel Jackson, ACCA's head of social and environmental issues. 'This broad range of organisations shows that reporting transparently and credibly is becoming accepted, albeit slowly, as normal practice. And as the economic climate continues to turn ever more gloomy, it is now more important than ever for organisations to be accountable for their impacts, and to ensure that corporate social responsibility remains at the forefront of everybody's business strategy.'
The winning companies, to be selected by a judging panel comprising experts in sustainability reporting, accounting and assurance, will be announced at a presentation ceremony at the British Library in London on 3 December 2008.
In addition to the winners' presentations, the event will feature an impressive line-up of speakers, who will talk on topical sustainability issues. The results of the annual reporting research will also be discussed, and a presentation by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, this year's theme partner, will reveal its findings on the standard of reporting on Human Capital Management by the 2008 entrants.
