Achieving Financial Excellence for Boards

In light of increasing clinical and financial demands, ACCA and the NHS Confederation have developed an intensive, practical two-day programme that will equip individuals on NHS boards with the key skills that they need to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Any NHS executive or non-executive director who has NHS governance responsibilities. Those who serve NHS Boards.

THE PROGRAMME
This is a practical hands-on experience. Delegates will look at real examples and discuss real scenarios. Mock meetings will be held using material provided. These meetings will be reviewed and learning points taken. There will be ample opportunity to discuss particular governance issues of concern to participants.

PRE COURSE PREPARATION
Delegates will be required to undertake some pre-course preparation in order to maximise the benefit of the course.

One week prior to the programme, delegates will be sent papers (a pack containing: audit committee; finance committee; business case and board papers) and asked to prepare for the meetings in their normal way, but NOT to discuss them with colleagues.

On each day of the course, following a brief introduction, delegates will be ‘invited’ to attend the meeting. Following the meeting, there will be feedback from the presenters on how the meeting went and an opportunity for discussion.

PRESENTERS
Mark Millar, Programme Director
Mark Millar is chief executive of a healthcare trust and has 15 years’ experience as an NHS finance director. He has served on ACCA’s International Assembly and is the chairman of the ACCA Health Service Network Panel. He is also a past chairman of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA)

Andrew Chambers
Andrew has extensive experience of board and audit committee membership, including an NHS Trust. He is the author of The Corporate Governance Handbook (4th ed, Tottel, 2008) and chair of ACCA’s corporate governance and risk management committee.
