Ang Hui Keng
vice president, SPE Networks, Singapore
For Ang Hui Keng, becoming an ACCA member opened vital doorways into the corporate world. After completing his examinations he started off as an internal auditor with Neptune Orient Lines, a Singaporean shipping company, later moving on to work for Maxtor, an IT hard drive/storage solution company.
His aptitude in this role led him to a job by SPE Networks - Asia, operating two 24-hour cable and satellite TV channels in Asia and subsidiary of Sony Pictures. He joined them as financial controller where one of his first responsibilities was to set up the financial systems and policies.
A promotion in 1999 propelled him into the role of director of finance & administration. In the same year he became the vice president of finance, administration and business development. In 2003, he expanded his responsibilities to become the vice president of finance, distribution and operations at SPE Networks, the position he currently occupies. He is responsible for finance, administration, human resources management, network distribution, business development and network operations.
Commenting on why he chose ACCA, Ang says: 'Its flexible study and examination options, affordable fees and the recognition ACCA derives from both public and private sectors and international audiences were contributory factors.
'Studying for the ACCA qualification has not only taught me technical skills such as how to conduct trend analyses, but also how to prioritise my workload and manage my time effectively. In every way the experience has been invaluable.'
