Lam Yiu Kin holds a senior role in PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hong Kong .
However, he sees his role in a wider social context. He outlines his plans to "contribute to the community through public services". He explains: "I am privileged to be an accountant who holds an international qualification. This has given me the chance to work in many countries and to achieve many things in my life."
He feels ACCA gives him self esteem: "It is well accepted by employers. ACCA membership offers better employment prospects."
Most ACCA members have a varied background and have had to juggle professional and personal commitments to get where they are today. Lam Yiu Kin sums this up: "ACCA members have a strong will to succeed. Having gone through the ACCA programme, ACCA members will be fully equipped for the modern, changing environment."
He believes accountants have an important role to play in future business: "I'd like to see them driving business forward. Financial statements are a common language for all business people, so it makes sense for accountants to take the lead. However, we need to bridge the expectation gap and engage in more open communication with stakeholders, the business community and government."
