Pat Hayle
Pat Hayle entered the accounting profession because of its accessibility and portability and because it would enable her to be self-sufficient.
She found managing a full-time job and studying a challenge. But it was the unfailing help and guidance of a close friend, which helped her through. Since then she has never looked back.
"The ACCA qualification was the springboard from which my varied and fulfilling career in accounting was launched."
Pat started off her accountancy career in 1973 at KPMG where she worked as a junior audit clerk. She later moved to Esso Standard Oil S.A. where she was employed as senior accounting clerk. In 1984 she became chief accountant with NCR Jamaica Ltd. And in 1991, Pat started her own business, CPH Consulting.
"Starting my own enterprise was something that just happened, rather than through any careful planning. But the risks, challenges and opportunities associated with being an entrepreneur continue to motivate me on a daily basis."
Pat is determined to help uphold the reputation of the profession. As a result, she has been affiliated to various accounting bodies and committees, such as the International Federation of Accountants' (IFAC) Compliance Committee, ACCA's International Assembly, and the Audit Practices Committee in Jamaica (ICAJ). She also held the position of president of the ICAJ from July 1999 to July 2001.
"Accountants must maintain their integrity, in their personal lives, as well as in a business context. They must also continue to provide valuable services to clients."
