Qiu Chuang
senior financial application expert, User Friends Software Group, China
Over a decade ago, Qiu Chuang anticipated that the accountancy profession would increase in importance. The market economy in China was developing quickly and would therefore urgently require highly-qualified finance professionals.
He decided to study ACCA after an education in the UK. 'In 1990, I was studying management accounting at the University of Manchester. It was clear to me that in the UK there was a different class of accountancy education - it was far superior to anything else I had come across. When I returned to China I heard that the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing was hosting a visit by ACCA. I went along to hear what they had to say about accountancy, and it was then I decided that ACCA was for me. Holding the ACCA qualification has helped me gain promotion quickly. I would encourage anyone to study ACCA's examinations. It is a solid platform upon which you can build a successful career.'
Qiu Chuang certainly has a thriving career. 'I designed value investment software, which was the first kind in China, and financial analysis software, which automatically produces analytical reports. I went on to start my own company - the E-fortune Company - which developed the software I designed. In 2001, my company was bought by UF Software Group, which is the largest management software developer and vendor in China.'
